Moments of Connection & Delight
Powerhouse Theater Season, Loeb Gallery, 2025
Vassar College
Description
At the time we were working at the Loeb there were two exhibitions running that had themes related to water. The first was "Water/Bodies" curated by Azra Dawood, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of Academic Programs featuring the work of Sa’dia Rehman. The second was "Great Green Hope for the Urban Blues: Art and Myths of the Hudson Valley" a Loeb initiative, generously supported by the Terra Foundation for American Art, to reinterpret and reinstall the museum’s significant collection of Hudson River School art.
Performers were asked to bring in objects that embodied concepts of flow or stagnation, and working with these objects we explored themes of connection between ourselves and the art, forging stories that all began from the same source phrase: "The connection is..." The resulting performances wove together through ritualistic dance and movement, ancient songs, and humorous anecdotes that both were the process and commented on the process.
